Description

A good match to a track-driven turbo Miata, this kit gives you big two-piece front rotors and nice stiff 4-piston Dynapro front calipers. It's a slightly scaled down version of our Stage 5 kit with a lighter weight. These are the brakes we used on our turbo ND when it ran for 15 hours at Laguna Seca over two days. Road & Track reported "...in my testing at Laguna Seca, these brakes proved measurably superior to the factory Brembo option, particularly in terms of pad-wear consistency."

Automobile Magazine simply called the brakes "breathtaking".

Stage 3 addresses the front only, as that's where the majority of the work is done in the braking system. Stage 4 adds our exclusive four piston rear setup that gives a firmer pedal, sheds more weight and provides maximum performance.

The pedal feel and balance is excellent due to the stiff Dynapro calipers with properly sized pistons. Slotted two-piece 12.19" rotors use superior Spec-37 iron. This metal gives very long life as well as dimensional stability under rapid temperature changes. Includes everything needed for installation. Due to these upgrades, this kit is only available from Flyin' Miata.

This kit includes:

  • Dynapro 4-piston front calipers
  • Spec 37 slotted two-piece 12.19" front rotors
  • Powerlite 4-piston rear calipers
  • BP-10 pads and stainless steel braided steel brake lines for all four corners
  • All hardware required for installation - even a hose to bleed the brakes
  • Note that it does not include rear rotors

The included BP-10 pads are great for street use and autocross use, you'll probably want more aggressive pads such as our BP-20 or BP-40 for track use. We're unable to remove pads from the kit.

Will they fit your wheels? These brakes (front and rear) will fit under stock 17" wheels (including the BBS Club wheels) without the need for a wheel spacer. They'll also fit under our Kōgeki and Tobu wheels with no spacers. We have not yet tested them with factory 16" wheels. We do recommend you check against your own, however. Use our handy templates to be sure:

Add the bridge bolt kit to make these stiff calipers even stiffer.

Note that brake fluid isn't included and is required. Our options are among the best fluid you can get, we recommend two 500 ml bottles to ensure a complete bleed.

To make the bleeding process as easy as possible, add Speed Bleeders. Note that while the Wilwood calipers have four bleeders per caliper, only the top two (per caliper) need to be replaced with Speed Bleeders.

You can choose red powder coat or grey hard anodizing as a coating for the calipers. Bear in mind that the hard anodizing is un-dyed, which means that the final color can vary from caliper to caliper, due to differences in the forgings themselves. This difference can be especially noticeable between different caliper types, e.g., the front Dynapro calipers and the rear Powerlite calipers that we use. We can't accept returns for calipers that have different shades of grey. If it's important that your calipers match each other perfectly, you'll need to choose the red calipers.

STAY AWAY FROM WILWOOD!!

upon inspection after few years of use, several of the bolts that attach the hats from rotors were broken off...contacted Wilwood, turns out it's a known issue and they refused to accept it was their fault. Their reasoning was I didn't use loctite which I have obviously used. You won't be able to see the loctite residue after years of use because of dirt and corrosion. Wilwood sells dangerous products and won't back their products. They are known for that.

Note from FM: This is the first time we've heard of such a failure. It's absolutely critical that all bolts, but especially bolts holding the rotor to the hat, stay properly torqued as loose bolts will fail very quickly.

Wow

Not sure how you cant love these brakes. Install was easy. Fitment note, if you have 17X9 wheels and they have rear weights, the standard method of running the brake lines will rub and potentially cause severe damage to the brake line. The guys at FM where great in giving some tips to preload a twist to bring the line lower. I also ran the 90 degree elbow about 45 degrees toward the inner wheel to keep the brake line down. Seems to work great. Again, wow. The brake feel and stopping is just incredible. So glad I did this upgrade.

Great fit

Direct install and no need to remove the dust shields. Plenty of clearance on the 17" Konig Ampliform. There's two issues I'm not happy with: 1) there's a lot of brake dust and 2) bleeding nipple is hard to grip, perhaps better nipple so we don't have to purchase new nipples.

fitment issues

I purchased the big brake kit and there is barely any room between the caliper and rim. Not sure if something was installed incorrectly but wasn't able to connect with FM on the phone. Just a recording that due to COVID nobody could answer the phone.

Note from FM: Kevin, please email us. We strongly recommend that wheel clearance is confirmed using a template before purchase. It will fit inside most 17" wheels but we cannot guarantee it will fit all 17" wheels. We know it'll fit any that we've ever sold but we don't know what you're trying to use.

Relatively simple install as a newbie (had help of a friend) if you have access to a lift. Once they were fined tuned I had absolute confidence in their stopping power. This is really all you need for stock power and then some.
