Description
Our timing belt kit is a little more expensive because it includes the tensioner and idler pulleys. We find that almost every Miata needs new ones when doing a timing belt. It also includes the timing belt (made by Continental), cam seals, front crank seal, a valve cover gasket and thermostat neck O-ring. Accessory belts sold separately. Don't get caught on a Saturday afternoon without parts you need!
We'll also ship you the right parts - some of the budget kits out there are put together by people who don't understand that there's a difference between the various NB engines!
This kit does not include a new tensioner spring, as it doesn’t need to be replaced. The tensioner spring doesn’t move back and forth during normal operation, it just pulls the tensioner pulley into the correct position during installation – it could actually be removed once the tensioner bolt has been tightened. Therefore, the spring isn’t fatigued and doesn’t need to be replaced.
This kit is for the 2001-05 NB 1.8 engines with VVT - not the Mazdaspeed. It includes new screws for the cover on the VVT cam gear, as those often get stripped in the process of removal. It also includes new O-rings for the VVT actuator.

I wanted to give it 5 stars but the belt broke in about 1000 miles. Everything else was handy just a bad belt.
Update- Ethan from FM reached out and helped me figure out what might've caused the failure but also compensated me for a new belt. Updating to 5 stars for the customer service.
It has almost everything I need for the job. I would be nice to include the 2 copper washers for the VVT oil line. It would also be nice to provide instructions on where those o-rings are used besides the coolant neck pipe. The 3 small VVT cam gear screws came very handy!
The Torx-25 screws on my car were evidently original, so now 17 years old, and all three of them were mangled when I tried to remove them. This required a drill and screw extractor. I was lamenting how I would replace them in the middle of the job when I discovered three extra Mazda parts bags in FM's shipping box -- three replacement T25 screws! Totally saved my day, and I noticed they were *not* mentioned in the item description. Thanks FM!
Nice kit. A thermostat gasket and new tensioner spring would make it perfect, but they are not included in the kit
Note from FM: You shouldn't need the thermostat gasket unless you're also changing the thermostat, and you should get the gasket with the thermostat in that case.
Great kit with quality parts! It had everything you need. Just wish it included "experience" based compete instructions. That would make this kit a grand slam. To be clear, this kit is not sold as DIY w/instructions. That is why I gave it 5 Stars. I have an 04 LS and everything kit perfect.
