Description
V-Maxx coilovers give you an adjustable setup for ride and handling. FM sway bars let you adjust your handling balance and make the car corner flatter and transition faster. Mix them together and you get the V-Maxx stage 2 kit - an excellent recipe for handling. It's what the Hammerhead teams used at the punishing Targa Newfoundland.
About the sway bars:
Sway bars are used to make your car corner flatter and react faster by keeping the body (and all the weight) under control. Ours are set up for neutral handling and are adjustable so you can tailor the handling of your Miata to your own driving style.
Our swaybars are hot formed from 4140 CrMo spring steel. This means they're stronger than the cold-formed bars found elsewhere. We've designed them to keep the same handling balance as your stock sways, but they have two settings in the front and three in the rear for fine-tuning. Includes brackets and urethane bushings with waterproof grease.
NA6 sizes are 0.875" front and 0.625" rear.
NA8 sizes are 1.0" front and 0.625" rear. The front bars have different geometry, so match your bars to your chassis.
About the V-Maxx:
Improved! The rear shocks now have offset bushings for extra clearance between the spring and the halfshafts. This gives you a wider range of height adjustment. We also use a single long front spring for better resistance to coil bind at higher ride heights.
You'd be amazed at how many suspension systems we test at Flyin' Miata. Even with a full line of parts, we're always looking for good options to pass along to our customers. When we first tried the V-Maxx suspension from the Netherlands, we didn't expect it to be any good due to the low price. To our surprise, it was better than most - but it wasn't quite right. So we changed the spring rates and bumpstop design until we had an end result that met our expectations, and worked with the manufacturer to bring our version to market.
So what makes them work?
The fixed shock damping is well-matched to the springs. A 1/2" shorter rear shock body gives extra compression travel for improved ride and handling, even at lower ride heights. Since the spring perch is adjustable, you have full control over ride height and cornerweighting. The spring rates are 391 lb/in in the front and 258 lb/in in the rear, which gives a good handling balance. The stock upper mounts are retained. They also have a two-year warranty.
They're not quite in the same league as the Fox in terms of outright speed, but they do offer excellent value and are a good choice for someone who wants an inexpensive coilover setup. Includes front and rear springs, four shocks, adjusting tools and bumpstops as well as all the upper mount parts to install them on your car.
We recommend the use of factory upper mounts only.

My youngest son picked up a set during the Black Friday sale and I finally got around to installing them for him. He has a ‘97 with the original suspension, which felt like being saddled to a marshmallow compared to the Koni Sport Stage 2 in my ND and my other son’s NA. I was curious how this ‘price point’ suspension would compare, and was not disappointed. Install was super easy and fast - the only thing that would have made it even faster is if FM pre assembled the Vmaxx with the upper mounts that they generously included with this kit (meaning you don’t need to have spring compressors to remove the 30yr old ones from your tired OEM setup). Was pleased that they also included adjustable link ends for the sway bars instead of reusing the tired old ones. But how does it drive? No more marshmallow, and very similar to the Koni Sport setup. The biggest thing I noticed is you can’t take speed bumps in the parking lot as fast (oops, sorry son!), and the ride quality in the twisties is 8/10 as good. I set the ride height at FM’s recommended setting which seems to be a good height. On my Koni Sport ND, I run the recommended dampening settings and haven’t touched them in 7 years (even for the track), so I’m not too concerned that these don’t have a dial to adjust the dampening like the VMaxx Extreme versions do. Well done, Flyin’ Miata, for working with Vmaxx to tweak these to your specifications and provide them at such a nice price point.
I also reviewed this a year ago, but mistakenly put it under the V-Maxx Classic kit without the swaybars (I got the kit WITH the FM Swaybars). I really love this suspension..... I've got it set really low, and I'm also running 16x8 wheels with BFG G-Force tires and a 260mm Momo steering wheel. It's like driving a gokart to work each day! An absolute pleasure. This suspension is a big part of the thrill. How is it possible to enjoy a car this much? The V-Maxx Classic coilover kit has been on my car for at least 4 years (and about 25,000 miles) and I'm really happy with it. One change I made this past year was that I added FM Sway Bar end links. I'd cobbled a kit together out of the McMaster Carr catalogue, but when they went dry (after a couple of years), they squeaked enough to drive me insane!!! Now back to performance like a new car.
Awesome product!! Fully adjustable to set your height for the road or track. Adjustments are easily done. Replaced a stock and original suspension that was 22yrs old. Great investment!
This is the best coilover package for the money. Period. It might not out perform the Fox suspension for ultimate control and adjustability, but for anyone who drives primarily on the street, they're perfect and hold your car nice and flat through the corners.
My only gripe is that the front coilovers have a longer single spring with the latest variant, and leave about a 1"-2" gap between the fender and the tire at it's lowest setting. For reference I'm on 14x7 RPF1's +19mm offset with 195/60r14 tires. I don't know if Flyin' Miata makes the helper springs for the front anymore, but I think they'd help with adjustability.
I purchased this to replace an aging stock suspension. Aging? Well, it was fully aged, in fact. 23 years old. This kit made the car handle like new. Better in fact -- it now handles like a sports car, without any significant penalty in ride quality. It handles bumps and bad pavement just fine, with excellent rebound control. The car feels planted in all circumstances, and the improvement in the steering quality cannot be overstated. It also corners flatter, and seat-of-the-pants evaluation says it corners harder, although my tires are old and bald and I can't wait until spring 2019 to get the car riding on some modern, quality tires. Definitely spring (so to speak) for the FM roll bars. I think the kit would be incomplete without them. Overall, the kit feels very well integrated and of a piece, and it has made my '93 feel better than new. Highly recommended!
