Description

Filling up your car is really pretty easy, but there's one major annoyance - where did Mazda expect us to put the cap? Dangle it off that tail so it'll scratch the paint? Nope. It'll mostly fit next to the filler neck, but that's not exactly ideal. This is an easy solution to give you a perfect spot for it. It installs in the underside of the filler lid and gives you a perfect place the hold the filler cap - just give it a quick turn into place. As with all of our 3D-printed parts, this is printed out of Onyx, a carbon fiber infused nylon that's resistant to many things, including gasoline.

Despite the angled cut, it's very easy to thread the cap into this piece. This is because of how coarse the threads are. The angled cut is necessary for clearance.

This will only fit factory fuel filler doors, it likely won't fit non-original fuel filler lids - if your fuel filler door is chrome, whether aftermarket or Mazda, this almost definitely won't fit.

Works decently

Works very nicely for keeping my gas cap secured while filling up. Only minor gripe is that on colder days the plastics contract a little and the holder no longer fits snugly in the fuel door.

Thanks, Sean! We use the Onyx filament from Markforged to print these gas cap holders, and while we haven't seen any noticeable shrinkage with cooler temps, you can also eliminate the two pieces from being able to move by putting a small dab or two of CA glue ('super glue') on the seam between the two halves. It doesn't need to dribble all the way through to the fuel lid door - just enough to have a couple small points of adhesion between the two 3D printed halves.

I Love this product

I highly recommend this product.
Never thought such a small and simple product could make me feel so good. Just awesome. It is an amazing feat of engineering.

The fight with the tether that has been going on for 24 years each time I've filled up my wife's 2000 is now over.

At first it seemed like the second piece would not fit but I just need to apply a little more pressure and it clicked right in for a perfect fit.

I would recommend rotating the tether ring about 180 degrees from the current photos on the FM product page so that the tether is completely out of the way when the cap is in the holder.
See the photos I've included.

Awesome

Get your hands on one when they're in stock. I removed the strap on mine ages ago and always just hold the cap while I fill. So nice to have a place to put the cap now!!
