Having power windows with auto-down functionality is great but having even more functionality is better. This simple to install controller from MX5things will enhance the function of your power windows by adding the features listed below.

RF (retractable fastback) window module features:

  • One-touch auto-up feature available for each window when controlling the windows from the driver's door switch.
  • The "Unlock" button on the key fob will lower the windows all the way down and the "Lock" button on the key fob will raise the windows all the way up. This can take anywhere from one to three button presses which is user-defined using the provided software.
  • Please note this module does not automatically roll up the windows after the RF top is raised.

ST (soft top) window module features:

  • Windows go all the way up or down (user defined) after the top is opened (soft top only).
  • Windows go all the way up after the top is locked (soft top only).

Default programming for both types of window modules:

  • Two lock button clicks on the keyfob raise the windows
  • Two unlock button clicks on the keyfob lowers the windows

Programmable - plug your laptop (Mac or PC) in via USB, and control what options you want active and what values you'd like - e.g., you can change the number of clicks for keyfob control features. The module can also be updated using a computer.

Simple installation, no cutting wires. Setting everything up is easy but it does require a laptop and basic computer skills.

The Mazda window system does not have any soft overload protection built-in, meaning it does not detect if something is in the way of the window when rolling up. The driver should take care when using the one-touch window-up function. The one-touch-up function can immediately be canceled by pressing the window-down switch for that window.

Please note that right-hand drive (RHD) cars, some Fiat 124 trims, and some European MX-5 models have different lock connector wiring making the plug-n-play keyfob control harness incompatible since it disables the locking mechanism. An alternate solution does not use the harness plug but instead uses Posi-tap connectors (not supplied), which is covered in the instructions.

Perfect! Except for one thing

Let me start off by saying this has worked exactly as described. But there is this one flaw that (to be fair very specific) a small nuisance described below. Who woulda thought automotive engineering is hard? I'm sure this will get address on the next iteration.

A. Car is off
B. When window position is down
B.1 Double click "unlock" on keys to roll down windows
B.2 or when window is open already
C. Open door
D. Double click "lock" to close window
E. Door close *Error*. Window does not perform "window drop" or "indexing" as usual to let the door close all the way
- The window does not "seat" into the rubber seal, it seats outside of the seal

The error can be work around if you close the door first (window down condition), then double click "lock" on your remote to close the window.

Note from FM: Jacky isn't wrong, if you try to lock the car (and roll up the windows via the key fob), the windows won't stop at their index positions. For this reason, we recommend locking the car with the doors closed.

Love the functionality of my windows now

I recently purchased the window controller for my 2020 soft top mx-5 and with help of the excellent video installation was a breeze. I now have control of the windows that should have been in the stock version of the car. Keep up with the great products which are easy to install and provide useful functionality.
