Description

Let's face it, hood props are a pain. They're always in the way when you're working on a car. Our hydraulic lift kits open the hood further and give you full access. Great for show cars or weekend mechanics.

Includes a pair of low power hydraulic struts so that the hood is lifted evenly. A single strut has a tendency to lift one side of the hood slightly when the hood is closed and twist the hood when it's up. Because each strut only has to support half the hood's weight, it can be smaller and more compact.

As used on all of our V8 conversions as well as pretty much every car in the Flyin' Miata fleet. Stylish black with a high-power Flyin' Miata logo on the side. Made by I.L. Motorsports.

You will need to drill and tap (M6x1.0) one hole in the hinge on each side to install - our kit below includes the correct drill bit and tap. Fits all 1990-05 Miatas.

Works as intended

When installing, discovered one of the ball joints didn't have grease and had to add my own. They work as they should but one feels a bit loose compared to the other and pops slightly getting to its full extension.

Sorry about the lack of grease on one of the sockets! Fortunately, they aren't very picky about what kind of grease they can use, so adding a little bit of chassis grease (or similar) should work just fine. Regarding the looseness - please check to see if the ball and or socket on that side appear to be smaller or larger than the ball and socket on the other side. It's possible that the assembly accidentally included the incorrect size ball or socket. If this is the case, please reach out to us via email or over the phone so we can help get that sorted out for you. Thanks again!

Great kit

Very well engineered and balanced. I was a bit concerned about damaging the flimsy hood closing it, but the struts have just the right amount of pressure to make the task easier than before. It takes a little more pressure for the final latch, but you'll figure it out.
Buy the drill and tap set.

Good little product. worth the money to get rid of the hood prop!

Install was super easy, the directions show very clearly where to measure and drill from specific points on the hood. Only small “issue” I had with these is one of the struts came completely dry with a little surface rust inside the socket with no grease for the ball fittings. Weird since the other one looked brand new and greased out of the box. Not a huge deal, just added some grease and they worked great. Slightly stiff when closing the hood for the first time just make sure you don’t crank on it and bend the hood. After a few openings and closings, it goes down as it should with ease.
