Description
This part was designed as part of our complete intake package. If you don't have the complete package, additional work will be required to make it fit. We recommend the complete package for best results.
The factory throttle body inlet pipe is made of flexible rubber. Under increased boost levels, it will inflate and can even blow right off. When that happens, you either get a dramatic loss of performance and unfiltered air into the engine, or the car just stalls - depending on your engine management. Either way, it's bad.
Note that this pipe has a 1 3/8" fitting for an upgraded bypass valve, as opposed to the stock 3/4" fitting. We recommend pairing it with our Turbosmart unit, included with the complete intake package.
As used in our Little Enchilada kit as well as the complete intake package.
The instructions below are for our complete Little Enchilada kit, but the first section is applicable to this part.

This was installed on my Mazdaspeed MX-5 around 2010. I purchased it about 6 years ago and built an engine, am now pushing the GT2560R (FM2 upgrade kit) to 18 psi. Tonight, while testing launch control, the blow off valve blew off this throttle body inlet pipe. I might take it to my retired neighbor who was a welder by trade and ask him to weld a bead on the end of the smooth pipe. For now I'll clean it with alcohol and reassemble making sure the constant tension clamp is tight. Nothing like your ~300 HP turning into N/A, having to stay away from 100 kPa to avoid over spooling the turbo...at least it wasn't something more serious and I understand I'm outside of the design specs but the other two pipes were flared to avoid this issue, why not flare the BOV pipe too?
I've had this kit with the Turbo smart recirc valve on my Mazdaspeed for about 10 years now (bought 2012 but I think it was installed in 2013). I'm not a mechanic and will admit I needed a mechanic friend's help to install but it wasn't hard for him at all once we figured out what to do with the vacuum lines in the absence of the rest of the intake kit. Purchased because my stock rubber inlet was blowing off at autoslalom. 10 years in on this package and couldn't be happier.
It does the job replacing the rubber elbow. I am just disappointed mine has welding slag all over it and can still see some grinder marks, not a smooth finish like the photo.
Note from FM: Colin got a piece that's a bit out of character, we're working with him to replace it.
