Andy is one of our dedicated R&D cars for the ND platform. His job is to be the primary four cylinder development car, used for powertrain/cooling/suspension/brake/etc testing. To support this role, known weak points in the car have been "hardened" so we can concentrate on what we're actually looking to test.

Andy is also a legitimate SEMA show car, having been on the Koni stand in the middle of the central hall in 2015. That's where the red highlights came from, they're Koni's corporate red color. Some of the pictures above show it in full SEMA spec and you may have seen them in Koni's advertising. 

Andy also underwent a serious torture test at Laguna Seca a few years ago where Road & Track dared us to let them drive our car in every session of the Miata Reunion. That's 15.5 hours of on-track time over a weekend. The car used up two sets of brake pads and a sway bar bolt loosened up, but otherwise it just kept circulating.
