Description
Is your speedometer needle bouncing around? You can try graphite lube, but if that doesn't work you'll need a new cable. Fits all 1990-97 Miatas.
We strongly suggest removing the gauge hood as a test before you order this part - they need to be removed to install a new cable, and they're notoriously brittle. They're less likely to break when it's warm, but we do sell replacements if necessary.
Original Mazda part, NA01-60-070B. Note that very early production 1990 models (VIN up to 109017) have a slightly different hole shape where the cable passes through the firewall. You will have to modify the ribs on the plastic clip in order to fit this part.

Tagging onto John's comment as it helped me the most across the forums. The new oem speedometer cable will not fit 1990 Miatas (mine is manual as well) without modification. The new speedometer cable has 2 additional static winglets, one will need to be cut off to fit. Not sure if later years have notches in the hole that help place the firewall connection where it's supposed to go (thus allowing the static winglets to fit). But the 90 miatas are just a circle. (See photo of the old original speedometer cable with just 2 winglets instead of 4 on the newer ones) 5 stars because I honestly can't find out who i got the cable from 😅 but it is oem!
This worked, and fixed my problem (noise) but doesn’t properly fit a 1990 Miata (5-speed). The part I received had two indexing ribs that the original did not so it would not snap into the firewall hole. I had to remove those ribs with a dremel before it would install properly. I discovered this after the install was mostly done and had to modify it in place which wasn’t the most fun.
Sorry to hear that you ran into some trouble with this one, Dave! Thank you for providing us with details on the differences you saw with your early NA Miata - we'll work on updating our product listing and any related instructions to reflect this information.
I bought this for my 1990 miata. The speedometer cable fixed the squeeling from the speedometer but the clip that's supposed to go in the firewall broke because its not the same as the original and has the 4 stationary little plastic pieces on the sides that the original didn't have.
That's odd, as the part number we sell (NA01-060-070B) is specifically what's called out by Mazda. Their system isn't completely clear about the distinction in cable between automatic and manual 1990 Miatas, perhaps that's what's going on? Either way, we're glad that it mostly worked!
My speedometer and odo stopped working and this fixed it. Its only site I can find the cable without having to import it. It came super quick. The part was perfect nothing was broken on it and came just in time. Thank you flyin miata!
