Description
Front crank seal for '90 to mid '91 Miatas. This seal fits the short nose crank. While this isn't always leaking when you do a timing belt change, it will be leaking before your next change! They don't cause a catastrophic failure, but they make a real mess of the bottom of the engine. Included in our 1990-91 timing belt kit.
Fits all 1990 Miata engines plus 1991 models with a VIN lower than 209446. You can also check the crank pulley - four slots in the face of the crank pulley is a short nose, eight slots is a big nose. Later cars should use the big nose version.

I've had nothing but issues installing this seal. This is not an Oem seal so you might have issues like I have. I'm on my 3rd seal and I'm going try a different vendor. This seal has a common problem to fold while installing despite buying the installation tool, making sure the mating surface is good and the seal being flush. I don't know if it's the rubber compound that's causing this issue or what, but it's resulting in a huge delay getting the job done.
Hey Ryan, sorry you experienced issues with this seal! No, they aren't branded 'Mazda' but they are from an OEM brand who makes parts for auto brands like Mazda, Honda, Subaru, etc. We've been using these seals for a few years now - including on our own fleet cars and personal cars - without issue, so we're not sure why you've experienced these issues with them. Regardless, we hope that you're able to get your engine sealed back up soon with the new parts you have on the way!
sucks that i assumed you would send anything other than OEM. guess it could have worked but don’t want to have to do this again or have it leak again anytime soon.
We're sorry you feel this way. We've been using these seals for decades with no issues (when properly installed), so we're confident in their reliability, despite the cost difference.
