Description
"...their stuff just works. I can't tell you how rare that is with aftermarket parts—too many companies just throw a bunch of spring and damper at a car and call it a day. (Coincidentally, most tuned cars blow goats.) FM's bits give gobs of travel and nice, progressive behavior at the limit." - Road & Track magazine
Our FM springs, FM sway bars and Koni Sport adjustable shocks work beautifully. It's what we use as our baseline for ride and handling - a suspension that can be driven on the interstate, on a daily commute and ripping around Laguna Seca. The sway bars let the car corner flatter and let you easily adjust the handling balance of the car, while the springs and shocks work together to keep the body under control. Every Miata will be happier with a Stage 2 suspension.
How much will this kit lower your car? We can't tell you, because Mazda changed the ride height of Miatas over the years. However, if you measure from the center of the wheel to the fender lip, you can compare your car to the final result. It's not a huge drop but once you drive the car you'll appreciate how well it works.
The shocks come with a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser (US/Canada only).
Specifications for the 1990-05 cars
Front springs: 318 lb/in
Rear springs: 233 lb/in
Front ride height: 12.5"
Rear ride height: 13"
The bushings at the top of your shocks are getting old. A new set of Mazda original equipment bushings can give you the best isolation from noise and vibration. Our adjustable end links give a few more options for setting up the car and can replace a set of stock end links that have damaged ball joints.
Includes FM sway bars, FM springs, bumpstops and Koni Sport shocks.

I installed the FM sway bars, end links and Koni adjustable shocks about 11000 miles ago on my 2003 Miata. Finally added the springs. The coil springs make the suspension feel more stable, more solid in curves. I was worried about too stiff a ride. The ride is a little stiffer feeling but not too much to me and it is not jolting. I wish I had done the spring install sooner! I have the sways at recommended outer hole front and mid hole rear and have the Koni’s set at 1/2 turn above minimum. I tried .25, .5, .75, and 1 full turn above minimum on the shocks. The full turn was jittery ( too much rebound ). I found the 1/2 turn setting is not floaty and does not have any extra bounces after going over bumps or swales. I expect ride height to settle out at 12.75” front and 13.25” rear as I had new rubber ring seats installed.
I normally don’t write reviews online, but this kit earns a full five stars. I ordered the stage 1 kit, but ended up at full stage 2 through future orders and added the strut tower brace too. The 87k Mike original shocks were so worn the front end of the car was floaty and made the steering feel imprecise. The car understeered pretty terribly as a result. The stage 2 setup with the recommended shock settings, sway bar settings and recommended alignment is incomparably better. The ride is surprisingly compliant over rough patches given the stiffer springs and sways. The steering is lightning quick now. The car is completely transformed. Thanks FM team!
I did reuse my dust boots since they were in really good shape. Other than that the instructions were followed to the letter using the new rubber, new bump stops and excellent instruction diagrams. The photos show the height of the car on 15x7s with 205 tires.
I was riding around in a 99 nb1 with 102,xxx miles and original suspension. Needless to say, it was shot. Honestly, anything would’ve been better than what I had. Every bump felt like flying off the edge of the Grand Canyon and surviving.
The whole kit is a nice compliment to everything. I am fairly mechanically inclined, so install was easy enough. The directions were decent… but once you remove and exam the old set up, you can then visualize better how to reassemble. My stock bump stops were gone… zero, nothing lol
Getting the nut and lock washer on was an absolute nightmare. I got lucky on the first one, my wife helped with the second and then she said “can’t you clamp this somehow?” So, this isn’t probably “correct” but it works great. Refer to the photo. I had enough room to start the nut without the washer. The issue was the bushing needed smashed down more than we could do by hand. So I ran the nut down without the washer to smash the bushing, clamped with vise grips, then removed the nut, added the lock washer, and then tightened back down.
Immediately after install, the steering itself felt “tight.” I assumed this was due do suspension geometry changes and the need for an alignment. I wanted to let this settle just a little before alignment, so I drove like 30-40 miles. It was not a great drive. The rear wheels almost “hopped” on acceleration. It never did that before. Honestly, I was a little discouraged.
I parked it until the alignment shop could get me in. I aligned it to the recommended specs and now the car is driving great. The steering felt back to normal again. Long story short, don’t under estimate how much an alignment is needed afterwards.
Overall, I’m happy now with the way this rides. The bumps are smooth compared to before. The car still rattles a little, but I think all the control arm bushings are probably shot and on my list too. My biggest compliment is the car sits so much nicer visually. The wheel gaps are less and it looks much better.
I can't begin to explain the difference between my stock "Hard S" suspension and the FM Stage 2 on my 2001 NB. Not only does the car handle better the ride quality improved dramatically. It's no 1980's Town Car but it's a lot more livable now on long trips. Dare I say the new compliance makes the car - comfortable and the car feels 15 years newer now than it really is. I have the shocks and sway bars set on the recommended FM settings for neutral handling and it's perfect.
*chefs kiss* That is all
