Description
Our timing belt kit is a little more expensive because it includes the tensioner and idler pulleys. We find that almost every Miata needs new ones when doing a timing belt. It also includes the timing belt (made by Continental), cam seals, front crank seal, a valve cover gasket and thermostat neck O-ring. Accessory belts sold separately. Don't get caught on a Saturday afternoon without parts you need!
This kit does not include a new tensioner spring, as it doesn’t need to be replaced. The tensioner spring doesn’t move back and forth during normal operation, it just pulls the tensioner pulley into the correct position during installation – it could actually be removed once the tensioner bolt has been tightened. Therefore, the spring isn’t fatigued and doesn’t need to be replaced.
This kit is for the 1999-00 NB 1.8 engines as well as the 2004-05 MSM.
We also have a full tool kit to help make this easier for you.

Great one stop kit for the job. Happy with the tools too. Delivery was fast and I appreciate that.
Really convenient kit, with a couple caveats: The valve cover gasket I received was a Mahle (aftermarket) valve cover gasket. It eventually started seeping, which I had to replace with a OEM Mazda gasket.
The way the gasket sits in around the center bolt boss (the first bolt you torque in Mazda’s service manual sequence) sits a couple millimeters proud when compared to the rest of the gasket. This is because the aftermarket gasket has a hyperbolic profile when compared to an OEM Mazda gasket with a cylindrical profile, thus making the entire gasket sit slightly more proud at the center of the valve cover, allowing some slow seepage at the edges. The aftermarket gasket also lacks oil control ridges at the top (which sits on the channel of the valve cover), while OEM maintains these.
The cam and crank seals in the kit were OE seals, which is nice. No complaints there!
Had everything I need for my ‘99 NB. All the parts fit and work. Belt is a little noisy, but that’s only got 100 miles on it so far.
Could probably source the parts cheaper yourself but man lemme tell you when you buy parts kits from flying Miata it is worth it. There was gaskets and orings I didn’t even think about and definitely would have been down a week or more waiting for them to ship in.
perfect fit and no issues.
