Description
This phone holder kit from our friends at MX5things fits conveniently into the cup holder mounting slot next to the shifter. The phone holder is really easy to use - put your phone in and let it drop down, and the arms on the side will come in to hold the phone. To release the phone, simply pull up on the phone and it will be released. It's a simple mechanism that will always work and keeps things cheap and easy. The stable base comes equipped with a 17mm ball to attach the included universal phone holder keeping it clear of your controls and display. You can also use any other 17mm ball-mount accessories. Note that this kit comes with a second ball mount - for use in vents - that typically won't be used.
Holds phones up to 3.5" (88.9mm) wide and 1/2" (12.7mm) thick.

Well constructed and designed. Nice finish
This give me a place to put the phone that is sorta out of the way (I don't take water bottles with me, anyway) and within sight for phone functions different from Android (real-time radar during stormy wx, for example.
Limitations: it wobbles in the holder; the handbrake lever tip impinges on the phone holder space (the handbrake lever is about 2 inches too long, anyhoo).
I think that I'll fashion a slim wedge to insert alongside the phone holder stalk to stop the wobble.
The little gizmo that is shipped with it is intended to be stuck onto a vent vane in other cars (or, in the Miata, if preferred).
It comes a bit close to my emergency break, but still works great.
Seems very well made, a little loose once in, but will give it a go once I start driving my car again in the spring.
