Description
While you won't get higher boost simply from installing this intercooler, you will get lower intake temperatures. This will allow the Mazdaspeed's ECU to be a little more aggressive with timing and make a little more power. It will also be useful when you turn up the boost and start making more power - and more intake heat. The new intercooler core measures 15" x 8" x 3". The stock one is 8.5" x 8.5" x 2.5" - the new one has twice as much the volume. It's powder-coated for durability and good looks, but with a special thermal property that allows it to shed heat as well as bare aluminum. The FM logo on the intercooler can face forward (visible) or rearward (invisible).
Easy installation using the stock Mazdaspeed piping. A short section (4" on the inlet, 2.75" on the outlet) needs to be cut off the stock pipes. The kit includes upgraded hose clamps and the same high-quality "grippy" silicone hose used in all the FM turbo kits.
We're using this same intercooler in our turbo kits for "normal" Miatas. This means we can buy in greater volume and lower the cost to you. Please note that we cannot ship this product to California as it will not meet emissions regulations.

Intercooling…tan unsung support item. Will you usually see buckets more power? Probably not. But it will verifiably help the car be more consistent on a 4 hour full tilt mountain cruise.
It has the lovely visual side effect of filling the front end I added lower brackets as many have noted, fitting is good as it comes but some secure it further.
Overall the unit is sturdy, the hardware and fittings are good quality and it’s a great stair-step mod.
Installed on 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata. Increases power by a lot, but now pinging starts at 5500 RPM instead of 6500. Have no solution for this. The included brackets to hang it from the frame were not right. Had to make my own out of aluminum bar stock.
Sorry to hear about the mounting brackets! It's possible you received the brackets we include for NA Miatas, which are a little different from NBs. Also, it sounds like you probably have a pre-existing issue with detonation, as a more efficient intercooler wouldn't cause detonation to occur. Just installed this wonderful unit on my mother-in-laws 2004 msm, greater response over the stock unit and spools 700rpm earlier. Highly recommend, just take a your time to install.
I'm pretty old and don't have access to a lift or own stands. The good news is that It's scheduled for installation tomorrow morning, 3-8-24. The intercooler looks well made and the installation instructions are detailed. More to come..
It's easy used a chopsaw. Lower than previous one. Need to raise and add a bar below but works fine.
With how our intercooler is mounted - which is different than the stock intercooler - you don't need that lower bar.
