Description
A Class 1 hitch (200 lb tongue, 2000 lb trailer weight) with a 1 1/4" square receiver that is invisible? Yes please!
This hitch is built in two parts - a removable receiver and the permanently installed base unit. When the receiver is in place, you're set up to tow a small trailer or carry a bike rack. But if you pull it off, the base unit is invisible. So you have a hitch when you need it, but nobody will know your secret when it's removed.
No drilling is required to install.
Includes hitch pin and all mounting hardware. Equipped with safety chain anchors. Fits with the Club aero bits - there are two positions for the receiver, so it can be run a bit lower to clear the diffuser.
Compatible with our Hush-o-matic exhaust.
Not compatible with the Fiat 124 Spider, as the reverse light is in the way. If you would like one shipped outside the US, or if you're in Alaska or Hawai'i, please contact Hard Dog Fabrication directly.
Be aware that the stock 2024+muffler is slightly larger, so you'll likely have slight interference. If you're open to a bit of metal trimming you should be fine, if you're not this isn't the right fit for your car. If you have an aftermarket muffler you'll likely be fine, but note that we can't guarantee fitment since there are too many possibilities.
These will be drop-shipped from the manufacturer. They're usually kept in stock. If not, depending on where the bars are in the production process, it could take approximately 2-6 weeks for delivery. Since they're drop-shipped, the tracking number process isn't automated and could be delayed.

Installed this on my 2023 RF Club w/ BBR package. Install went smoothly. Didn't have to trim anything to get it to fit. I did notice a slight rattle between the muffler and hitch. On Reddit, some users suggested using fuel hose between the two to avoid the rattle, so that's exactly what I've done. I used 3/16", but they stated 1/4" works too.
I just installed this hitch on my new 2024 ND Miata. Took 2.5 hours. Instructions are OK, but not great. The product description says there may be interference issues and a little metal manipulation may be needed. HardDog must have tweaked the design recently because I had no such issues. The horizontal hitch rail that spans parallel to the bumper clears the larger stock muffler by 1/4 inch so no touching components. That's great.
One negative: either the vertical bar on the detachable receiver was welded slightly out of square or the upper holes drilled into the vertical bar are slightly off center because I'm unable to push the pin through the hitch and receiver upper holes when trying to link them. The pin passes through each individually just fine. I'll likely have to drill out the upper holes in the receiver a bit for it to fit.
The lower holes work fine on the receiver when linking it to the hitch. Although this causes the receiver to sit lower and have more risk of bottoming out.
Despite this issue, this is a well designed and built hitch for the MX-5.
The issue with the detachable receiver is strange, that's not something we've run into before. The holes are cut on a CNC plasma lathe, but maybe something slipped, or there's a burr? Either way, Andy took care of it on their own, and we gave them a store credit as compensation.
Straightforward instructions and a quality product. Needed to add a bike rack to my ND2.
The drop reciever could be engineered better for a nicer fit and less shake/rattle/side to side sway with just a pin(as mine came 3yrs ago).
They have an anti-rattle kit that works but was hard for me to use. I ended up JB welding the threaded insert in place in the drop reciever.
Have had the on the car since new and I have owned the car over three years.
Hasen't rusted too bad and has being great for the mountain bikes!
Probably worth it if you like nice days, trail riding, and cruising top down on the way home!
Easy installation. I wish the pin for the removable bit was easier to get in, but that’s about it. Highly recommend.
