I just installed this hitch on my new 2024 ND Miata. Took 2.5 hours. Instructions are OK, but not great. The product description says there may be interference issues and a little metal manipulation may be needed. HardDog must have tweaked the design recently because I had no such issues. The horizontal hitch rail that spans parallel to the bumper clears the larger stock muffler by 1/4 inch so no touching components. That's great.
One negative: either the vertical bar on the detachable receiver was welded slightly out of square or the upper holes drilled into the vertical bar are slightly off center because I'm unable to push the pin through the hitch and receiver upper holes when trying to link them. The pin passes through each individually just fine. I'll likely have to drill out the upper holes in the receiver a bit for it to fit.
The lower holes work fine on the receiver when linking it to the hitch. Although this causes the receiver to sit lower and have more risk of bottoming out.
Despite this issue, this is a well designed and built hitch for the MX-5.
The issue with the detachable receiver is strange, that's not something we've run into before. The holes are cut on a CNC plasma lathe, but maybe something slipped, or there's a burr? Either way, Andy took care of it on their own, and we gave them a store credit as compensation.
Straightforward instructions and a quality product. Needed to add a bike rack to my ND2.
The drop reciever could be engineered better for a nicer fit and less shake/rattle/side to side sway with just a pin(as mine came 3yrs ago).
They have an anti-rattle kit that works but was hard for me to use. I ended up JB welding the threaded insert in place in the drop reciever.
Have had the on the car since new and I have owned the car over three years.
Hasen't rusted too bad and has being great for the mountain bikes!
Probably worth it if you like nice days, trail riding, and cruising top down on the way home!
