Description

So, why do you want a lightweight flywheel? Increased sex appeal of course. But aside from that, you'll discover your engine is more responsive to your right foot. Blipping the throttle to match a downshift, letting the revs drop when shifting up - the engine will react more quickly. It'll make your Miata feel more like a sports car. It's also SFI certified for safety.

There is a small but measurable improvement in acceleration in the lower gears thanks to decreased inertial losses, but it`s not a huge difference.

Weighs 8.4 lbs. Steel with an integral ring gear. Fits NC models with either 5- and 6-speed transmissions. The flywheel may cause some harmless drivetrain noise on closed-throttle deceleration - this is a characteristic of lightweight flywheels.

Great (steel) product but not the lightest

I'm rating the apparent quality of the product as 5 stars: the eBay flywheel that I am replacing I would also rate at 5 stars since I never had an issue with it and it was only $280 when I bought it. I would really like a 6.5 pound flywheel. I have to say that I am disappointed with myself for only saving $65 for 8.4 pounds when I could have just spent the extra money to get the 7.9 pound Fidanza flywheel (with replaceable facing). The smartest thing for me to have done would have been to further lighten my current 9.1 pound steel flywheel which would have cost around $280: I was looking for the lightest flywheel I could afford, and since my current flywheel is 9.1 pounds, I just spent over $350 to shave off only 0.7 pounds.

Note: we chose this weight for a good compromise between driveabiltiy and response. Lightening an existing flywheel can be problematic, as the penalty for doing it incorrectly is high speed shrapnel cutting through the transmission tunnel. MiataStuff, we're sorry the weight was not to your liking.
