As if having an active exhaust wasn't cool enough, this unit lets you integrate it into the car's electronics as if Mazda put it there.
The standard Hush-O-Matic works pneumatically, opening and closing the bypass depending on engine vacuum. Sometimes, however, you may want to keep it closed all the time for stealth mode - or open it up full-time for maximum aural fun. This integration kit allows you to change the bypass behavior on the fly.
To control the bypass, simply twist the control ring for the automatic wipers. Set it to maximum (+), and your bypass will be open all the time - i.e., always loud mode. Set it to minimum (-), and it'll go into always quiet mode. The three settings in between change how soon the bypass opens. You can have it go loud at 90% throttle, at 60% throttle or 20% throttle. When you turn on the wipers due to rain, the system will ignore any changes in settings.
How does it work? The MRS Micro PLC reads the status of the wiper control stalk and the throttle pedal and uses a solenoid to open and close the butterfly. All of the components are built to OEM specifications and durability requirements, so it'll keep functioning for years. A plug-and-play harness makes wiring minimal, requiring only two wires to be joined. The digital control of the bypass also eliminates any chance of buzzing as the bypass moves between positions, which can happen with analog control.
Can be retrofitted to any Hush-O-Matic exhaust. Contains the MRS Micro PLC (relay), a plug-in connector for the PLC, control solenoid and all wiring/hose to install. This kit now plugs straight into the OBD-II port, and includes a new OBD-II port so your scan tool still works. You need to connect two wires to the included solenoid, but that's it.

I was hesitant to install the CANBus controller because of the video showing how to connect to the underside of the fusebox. Until the kit arrived I thought there must be a easier place to get CAN-L and CAN-H than under the fusebox. I was very much relieved that the new version is plug-n-play with the OBDII connector instead. Installation was fairly easy. Excellent parts and shipping. One caution is take your time installing the vacuum line from the muffler to the solenoid under the hood. I pinched the hose in a couple of places and the system was always in loud mode until I found the problem.
This is installed now and works perfectly for controlling my Hush-o-matic!
However, the install process was pretty frustrating, in a large part due to the difficulty of making crimp connections in a relatively small space within the fuse box, around the wiring bundle.
Some things that I wish I had / did differently-
+ Get a crimp tool that crimps right at the tip. Same goes for a wirecutter. These will help you tremendously in the space available. My tool was pretty hefty, which definitely made things much harder than they needed to be.
+ Use a small piece of cardboard covered with aluminum foil to protect other wires from unintended heat. I didn't have a scrap piece of metal as used in the video, and this worked better for me.
+ Buy some extra "red" 18-22 awg butt connectors in case you badly crimp the existing connectors. I ended up ruining most of the supplied connectors. If you ruin the supplied big 3 way butt connectors, as I did, you can make these "2 way" connectors work instead.
+ Have a friend help you by holding up the fuse box to open up a little more space as you go to crimp.
+ Cut wires you are splicing into more or less in the middle. It'll give you a little more to play with on each side (whereas it's challenging to do this if you have less wire to work with).
+ Light helps a lot - get a head lamp and/or work lamp angled in there.

The active exhaust works OK, but with a little bit of gas it gets loud the moment I don’t want it to be loud. Therefore I mounted the Can controller. Unbelievable, it really is like an OEM part. I bought this along with the mid-pipe for my Hush-O-Matic exhaust. The instructions were easy to follow and the parts are of the highest quality. This pre-programmed relay listens for throttle position and intermittent wiper switch position on the CAN buss, and opens up the bypass valve on the exhaust accordingly. The Hush-O-Matic either routes the exhaust through the FM muffler (subtle sporty tone), or it routes the exhaust straight out the tailpipe (intoxicating, but not brash or garish). This little marvel of engineering decides if that bypass valve should be opened or closed. Highly recommend if you are purchasing the Hush-O-Matic.
