Description
The Miata has always had one of the best feeling shifters on the planet. But as they get older, some of the components start to wear and it slowly loses precision. You might not even notice, but it's not what it was. Luckily, it's easy to rebuild, and you can access everything from inside the car.
This kit includes all the pieces you need to make your shifter feel new again. All internal components are factory Miata parts, the boot is a high-quality aftermarket equivalent.
For 1999-05 5-speed transmissions as well as 1999-01 6-speed (production up to 08/01/01).
Includes:
- small shift boot (FM part MZ4003)
- lower shift bushing (0398-17-462A)
- upper shifter pivot ball bushing (R502-17-492)
- smooth wave washer (8599-17-482)
- tabbed wave washer (M505-17-482)
- lower shifter pivot ball bushing (R503-17-492)

When I disassembled my shifter as part of a clutch replacement,I was shocked by how worn the were. My bottom bushing was completely missing, and the rubber boot was torn. FM had the parts I needed along with a helpful video to make the job a breeze.
All the parts were just like my old parts,but they were oem parts in oem mazda bags. Every thing fit but I had a hard time removing my old torn rubber boot from my shifter. (The one with the 3 10mm bolts). If I had an exacto knife it would have been simple. I just drilled one of the holes a little larger &used channel locks to split it open to remove it from my shifter. Both rubbers were torn.Car has 80k miles on it. It shifts really good now.Definately worth doing. It took me about an hour but if I had to do it again I could do it in about half than time.The part arrived 1 day earlier than originally scheduled, definitely a plus. Thanks

Considering my shifter was all OE 25yo parts, totally missing the lower bushing, plenty of play in neutral… I’d say this is a huge upgrade. Everything went on easy and as it should. I recommend using some spray grease to help those boots slide on easier. A healthy slathering of grease on everything else and boom, buttery smooth. However i opted for a bronze lower bushing because i was looking for a more notchy shift. This kit plus that, the feeling is great. Iykyk.
