Flyin` Miata aluminum louver panel
Want to drop your underhood pressures and temperatures? You need to pull air out. Louvers have been used by racers and hotrodders for decades to do this, and that`s because they work. When you pull air out from underhood, cool air rushes in to replace it. And because it rushes in through your radiator, you`ll improve your cooling and the efficiency of your radiator. Everybody wins!
Unfortunately, it`s not easy to find someone who can punch louvers in a Miata hood. And the hood needs to be repainted afterwards. There are aftermarket rivet-in panels available, but they`re sized for bigger cars. An offshoot of our V8-powered Targa Newfoundland racer, these panels are Miata-size.
The CNC-punched 8 louvers are 4" long. The laser-cut panel measures 9" x 5", and is pre-drilled for a dozen 1/8" pop rivets (not included). It`s made of 14ga (1/16") aluminum and has a brushed finish on top. You`ll have to cut a hole in your hood in order to install them. They can be mounted almost anywhere, although you want to choose a location with low air pressure for maximum efficiency. They can be painted or left bare. Naturally, they can be installed on any vehicle.
Sold individually. In the pictures below, we cut through one of the underhood braces to install the louvered panels. You could also leave the brace in place although this will degrade airflow a bit.
